Kula’s Carbon Commitment
We strive to be a responsible member of the global community by creating and implementing Carbon Neutral policies. Our goal is to move beyond sustainability and, instead, create regenerative practices that will leave this planet more abundant for our children and future generations.
The Carbon challenge:
Everything we purchase has a carbon footprint. When we buy bananas, they were most likely harvested in Central America and trucked or flown to the store where we bought them. That movement, whether it be on a train, plane or truck, put carbon into the atmosphere. Similarly, when we move ourselves around the planet, whether it be in a car, train, or plane, we too are adding carbon to the atmosphere. As carbon increases in the atmosphere, the temperature of the planet increases.
As the planet heats up, we will witness more natural disasters and forest fires, rising sea levels, more displaced families, increased famine, decreased crop yields, increased poverty. This is potentially the most important challenge our generation faces.
Kula Collective offers Yoga Teacher Trainings in international locations. We too are adding carbon to the atmosphere. We too are part of the problem. And we are part of the solution...
Kula Collective’s Zero Footprint Initiative:
Kula Collective will donate HALF of the cost of offsetting your carbon created by traveling to a
Kula Yoga Teacher Training if you pay the other HALF.
How do Carbon Offsets work?
“The best technology to fight global climate change is the mighty tree”
Your donation will be given to a partner organization that is committed to reforestation efforts. Trees capture carbon and deposit it where it belongs, in the earth. This is called “carbon sequestration”. For every tree that is planted, it is estimated that 50 pounds of carbon is sequestered in the Earth each year!
How much does it cost?
Consult the table below to determine your “Offset Cost”. Find the row that corresponds to the continent of your departure location and follow it across to find the continent of your training location. The price found in the resulting box is the amount it costs to plant trees to offset your carbon. Remember, you only have to pay half of the amount found in the box and Kula will pay the other half. You are welcome to donate as much as you’d like, but Kula’s donation will not exceed half of the offset cost.

Where does my donation go?
We are currently partnering with two different organizations, both of which have the mission to plant native trees in deforested areas around the globe. Please read the brief descriptions of each and on the form below you can decide which organization you’d like to support.
TREES for the Future
TREES has been engaged in reforestation projects since 1989. They work with groups of farmers—typically 300 families at a time —who have both a great need for assistance and a high likelihood of success. Farmers provide the land, labor, and water; a powerful, entrepreneurial determination; and an inspiring sense of ownership. TREES provides training, mentoring, seeds, and nursery supplies for each family. Through this extremely efficient method, TREES has reduced their cost/tree planted to below 10 cents per tree. That means a $50 donation will plant over 500 trees! Visit their website for more information.
Atitlan Organics
Atitlan Organics is a permaculture farm and research center based in Tzununa, Guatemala. Their approach to tree planting is to support indigenous locals to create a food forest using native avocados as the primary tree cover. This method of reforestation ensures lasting success by creating a profitable yield for the farmers. If you are interested in getting your hands in the earth, contact Atitlan Organics about their on-site volunteer program. Visit their website for more information.
