Elements.
The mountains are my bones,
The rivers my veins.
The forests are my thoughts,
And the stars are my dreams.
The ocean is my heart,
Its pounding is my pulse.
The sounds of the earth write
The music of my soul.
- Wild Woman Sisterhood
During my yoga teacher training with Kula, I was able to see the Divine, God, Great Spirit in an expanded way… through all the elements around me. I was able to heal my body, mind and spirit by chanting and singing to the elements - both in nature and within me.
Here is a little reflection on my journey with the elements during my journey with Self.
Elements.
I was fire.
Flames consumed my being
as I criticized my inflamed body
Judged my perfectionist ways
and let anger and fury engulf
all of me.
I was water.
Waves crashed over my bones
Drowning me in the ocean of my thoughts
Causing destruction
Leaving little rest
Little time for breath.
I was earth.
Stuck in muds of misery
Vines entangled my heart
Suffocating expression of self
Burying pain deep inside bones
Waiting to escape the weight of
Earth.
I was air.
Breeze causing chaos of thoughts
Swirling in the abyss of my being
Shifting
and
shaping
a frazzled
anxious
and
confused
mind.
I was ether.
Space to lose myself in
Unsure of where I belonged
A soul wandering
in a broken body
and
scattered
mind.
I am fire.
Flames fueling action
Transformation
Creation
Accomplishment;
Motivated
Driven
By the ignited heat
At the core
At the center
of all that I am.
I am water.
Flowing
floating
free
as I am cleansed by the water within
washing away the past;
Waves of emotions
carry my soul on a rollercoaster
of healing and renewal.
I am earth.
The womb of Mother Earth
nurtures my broken pieces
cradling them in the roots
of interconnected trees
Bare feet dirty
from direct contact to earth
Connection to maker of life
Creator of all.
I am air.
Clear air
brings clear mind
Drinking in life
New breath
Each inhale
and exhale
A chance
to begin again
A gift
and blessing
from wind.
I am ether.
Space to just be
Present and fully alive
Standing in my truth
Drinking in the beauty
of the basic elements
of this life.
